07/09/1964: Memorial Hall: plans are drawn
PRELIMINARY work in connection with the building of Ceylon's biggest Conference Hall - The Bandaranaike Memorial Hall - has started with the arrival of three Chinese building experts.
The team is now drawing up plans and specifications for the Hall in consultation with the Ceylon Government.

The Hall will be built by the Government of People's China and presented to Ceylon as a tribute to the memory of late Prime Minister, Mr.S. W. R. D. Bandaranaike. It will be sited at the Gold Links in Bullers Road.

When the Prime Minister of China Mr.Chou En-Lai came here early this year, he envinced interest in a government scheme to build an International Conference Hall and offered to build it entirely at the expense of the Chinese Government.

According to reliable sources, building operations are expected to start by early next year. The Chinese surveyed the site for the Hall and approved it.
