29/04/1979: Company to popularize BMICH for parleys

The Minister of state Mr. Ananatissa de Alwis has instructed the Chairman of the Ceylon Tourist Board Mr. Chandra de Zoysa, to float a limited liability company to run a national convention and I incentive travel bureau to popularize the BMIC as a venue for international conferences.
According to the proposal 31 per cent of the shares of the company would be held by the Government and the balance by the private sector. The chairman of the company would be the head of the Tourist Bureau.

A five-member committee headed by Mr.A.C.H de Soysa a former Chairman of the Tourist Board has been appointed to study the project.

The others are Messrs. C. Renganathan, M. Thahir Director to a General of Tourism John Yacoumis, UN Adviser on Tourism and a representative of the Ministry of Foreign Affaires.

The Tourist Board has already obtained technical assistance from the UNDP on the setting up of the convention bureau. A UNDP expert, Mr. E. P. Kearney of the Irish Convention Bureau was here last year under the UNDP Technical Assistance scheme to advise the Tourist Board.
