24/07/2008: SAARC Summit a platform to promote tourism
Sri Lanka Tourism is actively involved in promoting the destination, when the 15th South Asian Association of Regional Cooperation Summit (SAARC) is held in Colombo.
South Asia is considered to be one of the most important cultural and biodiversity hotspot areas of the world. Strategies for new product development, promoting intra-regional and international tourism and sharing of resources, are among the items for discussion on the SAARC Summit agenda for Colombo.

Sri Lanka Tourism will assist nearly 250 foreign media personal who will be in Sri Lanka to report on the summit, operating a full time media centre at the BMICH, from July 27 to August 3, working closely with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

A special visit to the Eastern Province is a highlight of the programme for foreign journalists from the SAARC region and from US, UK, Japan and Thailand covering the event. They will be exposed to the comprehensive development activities being carried out in the region with assistance from foreign donor nations and organisations.

The foreign media will also have the opportunity to make an excursion visit to Kandy, Negombo, Hikkaduwa and the Thalangama Wet Lands.

Sri Lanka Tourism will host local and foreign media representatives to an expose of Sri Lanka's culture with music and dance, at an exclusive dinner show for the group during the Summit.
